Sands Preparing To Change Casino Landscape In Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is not far away from being a full fledged casino mecca in the Northeast. They already have several casinos and Governor Ed Rendell is trying to open up slot gambling for all of the state.
The Las Vegas Sands Corp. is one of the gaming companies in the US that can change the casino landscape with one of their properties. that is what is about to happen in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
The new Sands casino will be opening this spring and there is already a buzz in the air. The casino poses possible threats to both the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and the Mount Airy Casino, but neither is overly concerned yet.
"In this industry, you can't be afraid of competition. That's the nature of the industry,' said Pete Peterson, spokesman for Mount Airy, as reported in the Times Leader. The competition could be made worse by the lure of something new.
Sands has a stellar reputation and a recognizable name in the casino industry around the world, so customers may be interested in seeing what the new casinos is all about. Whether they stay or not will surely be decided by their first few experiences.
While Sands presents the most immediate danger, it is Governor Rendell that holds the key to possibly permanent failure. The governor is proposing to bring slot gaming into bars and slot halls.
Should his plan be approved the competition in the Pennsylvania gaming industry would skyrocket. Currently, the proposals are being discussed by lawmakers but no decisions have been made on the gambling expansion.
