Seminole Casino Expansion Causes Gambling Cruise Ship Closure

Treasure Island Casino Cruz has sailed for the last time. The cruise ship will be moved because of competition that could not be overcome.

In Florida, the Seminole Indians have expanded their casinos to such a point, that it is difficult for other gambling companies to stay afloat. Literally.

Oceans Casino Cruises has decided that it is time to pull out of their Treasure Island Casino Cruz. The ship will be moved to one of the companies other locations.

"It is with great regret that we will discontinue our service here. But the recent expansion of Seminole casinos and pari-mutuel facilities approved by the state legislature-both within an hour's drive of the port, made it extremely difficult for us to compete effectively in this geographic market," said Executive Vice president of Oceans, Greg Karan.

In other areas of Florida where the company has cruise ships, they are profiting. The ship from this location will be moved to one of their other locations. The company has ships in Port Canaveral, Jacksonville, Myrtle Beach, and Key Largo.
