Seminole Casino In Coconut Creek Could Dwarf Hard Rock In Hollywood

The Seminole Indians are preparing the plans to bring one of the most luxurious casino complexes on the East Coast to Coconut Creek, Florida. If they receive approval, the complex will make their Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida, look like a street corner operation.

The Seminole plan is to bring the tallest hotel in Broward County to the project. They would also have a spa, parking garages, nightclubs, and 150,000 feet of retail space to go along with a twenty four story high, 1,500 room hotel.

That plan does not even include the casino that would be involved in the project. The one thing that will have to be worked out, however, is the city codes that will have to be adhered to by the Seminoles.

That is the worst case scenario for the Seminoles. The best case scenario comes from Washington D.C., where the next Interior Secretary might hold the key to the Seminoles' plans. That position will be the one that decides whether the Seminoles will be able to turn land near their current casino into Indian trust.

If that happens, the tribe will be able to do whatever they want with that land, with none of the revenue going to the city of Coconut Creek. While that option is there, the Seminoles and the city are still negotiating an agreement where the city would get some of the revenue generated from the complex.

"I just can't imagine why either side would go out of their way not to have that cooperative relationship," Nova Southeastern University Law Professor Robert Jarvis told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

The Seminoles claim that hundreds of jobs would be created in the construction process, to go along with 5,000 full time jobs to run the complex. That is a welcomed addition in these difficult economic times.

The city is willing to negotiate with the Seminoles, but they claim they will not do so under the current size of the expansion project. The two sides have time to negotiate since an Interior decision will not be made until after a new Interior Secretary is appointed next year.
