Seminole Indians Changing Future Of Gambling In South Florida

Sunday will be the day that many South Floridians have been dreaming about for a long time. It will mark the beginning of a new era in casino gambling in the Sunshine State.

Florida already has beautiful beaches to go along with their tropical weather. They also have South Beach. The only thing that has been missing to make South Florida a top tourist destination is big time casinos.

The Seminole Indians will begin changing the latter on Sunday. Blackjack tables will be functional starting on Sunday at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood. The addition of the games were part of a compact that was signed between Governor Charlie Crist and the Seminole Indians.

The area has been moving towards full casino gambling for a while now. A few years back, Broward County approved Vegas style slots at their parimutuel facilities. When that occurred, the Seminoles set their sights not only on the Vegas slots, but also on blackjack and baccarat.

The Seminoles have been training dealers from all over the world in anticipation of the jolt in patrons the game will surely create. 71 tables in all are finishing being installed and the first cards will be dealt at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday.

"With the introduction of blackjack and other card games, Las Vegas style casinos will now be at the doorstep of the residents of Florida. Floridians won't have to go to Las Vegas or Atlantic City to play their favorite games," said President of the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau, Nikki Grossman.
