Senaca Indian Tribe Open Another Casino in New York
There has been a battle going on between the Seneca Indian Nation and opponents who believe casino gambling is not legal because the land on which the casino is built is not sovereign. The National Indian Gaming Commission sided with the Senaca Tribe on Monday, and on Tuesday, the doors were opened for business.
It was not a big grand opening for the casino due to the fact that the casino already existed, but workers stayed through the night to wire 124 slot machines and have them ready for action on Tuesday.
The casino is part of a bigger plan by the Seneca Tribe which already runs two other casinos in the area and the Buffalo one is the last that will be able to be run as the state has mandated that only three can be in existance.
Opponents of the casino vowed that they will continue their legal battle and that the Senaca Tribe should not get to comfortable with Monday's decision. opponent Joel Rose stated,"The facts and the law are very much on our side, I held out some hope that the National Indian Gaming Commision would feel constrained by that, but apparently not."
