While their major expansion plans for the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino and resort have been placed on hold, the Seneca Gaming Corp. announced on Thursday that they are moving forward with slot expansion. That expansion should double the amount of machines currently offered at the casino.

The economy has taken its toll on Seneca's gaming operations. Several projects have been put on hold because of the recession, and even the Buffalo casino will have to wait before their $333 project is restarted.

The slot expansion is expected to take place by the Spring of next year. The total number of machines for the facility will go from 244, to 444. The total amount of this project will cost in the neighborhood of $8 million.

Even though the group has not announced any plans to restart their full project, the sentiment is that it will begin again at some time. It just may take longer now thanks to the economic recession.

"I do see a total advancement somewhere in the future," said Jeffrey Gill, Seneca Gaming Chairman, "We're still totally committed to it and I'm always optimistic. Economics will determine what direction we are headed."

The state of casino gambling around the US has been unstable for the better part of the past eighteen months. The Indian tribal casinos have shown the ability to hold up better than other casinos, but the economy has still taken a toll on the overall revenue at these tribal casinos.
