Seneca Nation Dealing With $17 Million Casino Revenue Decrease
It may be a good thing that tribal casinos do not have to play by the same rules as other casinos in the same states. The Seneca Nation is showing that Indian casinos are struggling just as much as privately owned casinos.
The Seneca Gaming Corporation has reported a drop of $17 million for the fiscal year of 2008. That drop off is from their 2007 figures to the ones for 2008.
It does not appear that it will be getting any better for the Seneca's next year. The first two months of the 2009 fiscal year have also shown a decrease in both slot and table game gambling. The slots are down almost five percent and the table games are off fifteen percent from 2008.
The Senecas have already stopped construction on several new projects and more bad news could be on the way. There is a federal lawsuit that is trying to stop gambling at a Seneca site in Buffalo, New York.
Although stopped right now, the Seneca's are still committed to finishing their existing projects. The cost of those projects are over $300 million. The projects include upgrades at existing facilities, and also a permanent casino with a hotel in Buffalo.
