Seventeen Not Enough, Iowa Wants More Casino Gambling

Once the ball gets rolling, it is hard to stop. That is certainly the case with casino gambling in Iowa. The state has seventeen licensed casinos, and all indications are that more are coming.

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission will be spending this summer trying to determine whether or not they should add more casinos in the state. Voters have already approved referendums in five different counties and now those counties are waiting for the Gaming Commission's approval to build casinos.

The Commission has done their homework regarding the issue. They have ordered studies to be conducted to see if the state can handle having more casino gambling. One of the studies indicated Polk County could support a casino, and another study said that the Iowa gaming industry is thriving.

The study done by GVA Marquette Advisors showed that the current recession in the US could be helping Iowa casinos. Atlantic City and Las Vegas used to be the destination of gamblers, but now they cannot afford to travel across the country.

That has left the door open for Iowa and other states to take advantage of the economy. Many states have expanded their gambling laws and are now seeing the benefits of having casinos in their states.

The casino construction around the US has also helped with unemployment. Jobs are being created, and revenue is flowing in city's and towns where casinos have been built. The Iowa decision is expected sometime later in the summer.
