Singapore may have legalized casino gambling back in 2005, but that does not mean they are going to accept problem gambling. The Singapore National Council on Problem Gambling is stepping up their efforts to bring awareness to Singapore residents.

Already, the Singapore government has put a heavy emphasis on improving awareness for their residents. In 2006, only thirty-two percent of Singapore residents understood the problem gambling issue. That grew to seventy-one percent by 2008. The figures were released by Singapore Government Minister Yu-Foo Yee Shoon at a conference on problem gambling.

The National Council on Problem Gambling has been at the center of raising the awareness, and the group has been praised by the Singapore government. The NCPG is not stopping there, however. They have unveiled a whole new plan.

The group will be stepping up a new campaign, which is titled, "Know the Line." They are aiming the campaign at people who could be in the high-risk group of potential problem gamblers. The media will be the primary outlet for the campaign.

The awareness is needed now more than ever. The casino options are growing in Singapore, with major US-based casino developers working on new casino projects. The more gambling options that become available, the more the need for the NCPG to continue their heroic effort.

In addition to running the ads, the NCPG also has several other important roles in raising awareness for problem gambling in Singapore. The group decides who will be excluded from casino, and distributes funds to gambling treatment programs. They also advise the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports in Singapore.
