Sioux Tribe in South Dakota Files Suit Over Gambling Compact
The South Dakota Sioux Indian Tribe has filed a federal lawsuit against the state of South Dakota siting that the number of slot machines at other state casinos has sky rocketed, while the tribe's casino is still only allowed up to 250 machines.
The federal law that the Sioux tribe is siting specifically states that Indian run casinos are allowed to have the same amount of slot machines as other in-state casinos as long as there is a negotiation between the tribe and the state beforehand in order that they agree on a gaming compact.
The Sioux Tribe is stating that they had the negotiations with state officials but were misled. They feel they were told it was okay for them to add more slots, then they were unfairly prevented from adding the slots at one of their casinos.
The tribe's desired outcome in the case is to expedite new negotiations with the state, and to come to an agreement with the state on a new gambling compact within 60 days of the filing.
