Slot-Like Video Gambling Machines Ban Bill Headed To Maryland Senate
A new Bill that would make any slot-like video gambling machines illegal has passed a Senate Committee vote on Wednesday. The Bill will now move into the full Senate.
The state of Maryland has slot-like video gambling machines all across the state. Most of these machines are illegal according to Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler.
The state is so intent on stooping the machines from being used, that their is a sting operation that will be starting at the end of the week in St. Mary's County.
Even if the Senate decides to pass the Bill, there plans to be plenty of legal action taken. "There's going to be litigation..because so much money is involved," said Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller to the Senate and Taxation Committee.
Several operators have been getting by the current laws through loopholes. Those loopholes will now be tightened should the new Bill be passed. The Bill will also allow local governments to no longer be responsible for making decisions as to which machines are legal and which are not.
