Slots And Table Game Revenue Rise In Pennsylvania For August

Pennsylvania has become a hot bed for casino gambling in the US, and August proved yet again why the future of the Northeast gaming industry is brightest in Pennsylvania. In August, revenue was up on both slot machines and table games, causing analysts to predict even brighter returns in the future.

The 10 existing casinos that had been opened for August of 2011 and 2012 were joined by a new gaming facility, Valley Forge Casino Resort, which opened in March of this year. The new casino helped drive numbers up nearly six percent from the same period in 2011.

Valley Forge helped increase the overall numbers, but the existing casinos were doing just fine by themselves. Without Valley Forge's numbers included, slot revenue still rose by 3.7%. The combined slot revenue netted the state just over $1 million for the month.

The slots were not the only place where gamblers were losing in Pennsylvania casinos. Table game revenue rose over 11% for the month, compared to the same period in 2011. The total of $59.9 million won on the tables was up from the $53.9 million in August of last year. It is a figure that is expected to grow even more in the coming months.

"The sky is the limit for Pennsylvania casinos right now," said Gaming Analyst Brad Dawkins. "The casinos in Pennsylvania have developed a reputation for excellence and excitement in the Northeast, and the locations of the gaming facilities ensures that the state will continue to be among the national leaders in the gaming industry."

In the six years that casinos have been open in Pennsylvania, the state has continued to rise in terms of overall gaming revenue. Expansion has come swiftly in the past few years, including the ultimate game-changer in 2010, when lawmakers agreed to allow table games at Pennsylvania casinos. Last summer, the table games began in the state, and by December, Pennsylvania had passed New Jersey as the second-largest gaming industry in the country, behind only Nevada.
