Gamblers Still Excited About Casino Sale
About two months ago, news surfaced of the potential sale of Clinton?s riverboat casino, the Mississippi Belle II. That sale is expected to be finalized today. Not much has changed in the past two months in terms of our perception of the way the sale will impact the community. The current owners have said they feel strongly about the buyers? commitment to the community, and the new owners, Wild Rose Entertainment, have pledged to move forth with land-based development.
One thing we see as important is noting the gaming license still will be held by the Clinton County Community Development Association, a volunteer group responsible for local disbursement of gaming grant money generated by state gambling taxes. This sale should, in the long run, be beneficial to the Clinton area. Though we realize not everyone is in favor of gambling, it is important to note that Clinton County voters have twice approved the presence of state-sanctioned gaming in the county. That being the case, we might as well make the most of it, and a land-based operation is the way to do so.
