Storm Comes At Bad Time For Tunica, Mississippi Casino
Casinos around the United States are searching high and low for ways to increase revenue. The current economic situation in the country has many casinos watching as their revenue numbers drop.
Harrah's Casino in Tunica, Mississippi is one of those casinos that cannot afford to keep losing revenue dollars. They are trying, much like the other casinos, to find ways to bring people back.
Monday night was not a good one for Harrah's. The casino was closed down for almost twelve hours due to a bad storm that hit the area. The storm knocked out electricity at the casino after a transformer was hit by lightning.
The casino was forced closed by the Mississippi Gaming Commission because surveillance equipment inside the casino was malfunctioning. It was a result of the loss of power. Other casinos in Tunica were also affected by the storm, and lost power. Harrah's, however, was hit the hardest and their electric was out for the longest time.
Revenue was lost at the casino during the closure. The casino was closed from 9:30 on Monday night, all the way until 8:00 the next morning. The casino will now have to create ways to regain the lost revenue. It will not be easy, with many casinos struggling even without being closed for half a day.
Casinos throughout the country are feeling the effects of the economy. An industry once thought to be immune to ant country wide recessions, is showing signs that they are not exempt. They are struggling just like businesses in other fields.
