Americas Taste For Casino Gambling

America's taste for gambling may be going sour. A new report from the Washington, D.C.-based Pew Research Center shows an increasing number of people think casino gambling is bad, and they're withholding their money as a result. Is Las Vegas is being affected or not. The quick answer is yes and no.

Although Las Vegas casinos have reported record revenues in recent years, much of that increase doesn't directly involve gambling. Millions of people fly and drive into Las Vegas every year to try their luck at casinos. But the number of people looking to take that chance is beginning to fall off just a little bit. Schwer has studied Las Vegas' gaming economy for 20 years.

He says the Pew Research Center study has teeth. "The slice of the population that enjoys gambling has been reduced slightly. "Some 2,200 people nationwide were surveyed for the report. Some of its findings are: 29-percent regularly visit casinos, but only 24-percent gamble.
