Study Blasts Two Washington Tribal Casinos

Casinos love to have studies done that reveal that they are doing great, but they do not always end up that way. In Washington, two casinos have been blasted in a recent study for having a lack of proper management and poor security.

The Puyallup Tribal Council commissioned a study less than a year ago that resulted in bad marks for two of its Emerald Queen casinos. One of the casinos is in Tacoma, and the other in Fife.

"The Emerald Queen Casino is leaving approximately $40 million a year in revenue on the table," said the report done by Lamar Associates, as reported on Seattlepi.com, "Immediate changes are necessary to protect the tribe's gaming assets and to ensure that maximum revenue is generated."

The report indicated that the casinos' ambiance was poor, and that there was not enough security to control what was happening in the casinos. It also indicated that the casinos were being mismanaged, which is where the additional revenue would come in.

"If these casinos are going to continue to exist, these are problems that need to be addressed," said observer Walter O' Connell, "Even though the tribe (Puyallup) did not want the results of this study revealed, they need to fix the problems quickly."

This is not the best time for the disappointing news to be leaked. The economy is already causing a slowdown at casinos all across the US, and any negative publicity will only further hurt revenue.
