Study Suggests Casinos Could Bring In $600 Million To Mass.
Governor Duval Patrick has not received much support from legislators in the state of Massachusetts when it comes to his casino plan. A study released by his administration on Thursday suggests that the legislators should adapt to the idea.
Patrick has long been pushing to get casino gambling legalized in the state of Massachusetts. He claims that the revenue generated could go a long way in helping balance the state budget.
On Thursday, his administration released the results of their study and they backed up Patrick's claim. The state could benefit $600 million a year from legalizing casinos. The study could once again revive the casino debate in the state.
This past spring Patrick submitted a proposal for three new casino in Massachusetts. The plan was shot down by legislators, but Patrick vowed that he would continue his fight for casinos.
"I believe this analysis will prove valuable for future policy deliberations if and when the issue of expanded gaming in Massachusetts re-emerges," said Secretary of the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, Dan O'Connell.
The advantages to new casinos in the state would be that citizens of the state could stay within state lines when gambling. Currently, many residents travel to other states to spend their gambling money.
The report released on Thursday was 301 pages long and contained information not only on revenue that could be generated, but also projections on the amount of jobs that would be created.
