SugarHouse Casino Moves Closer To Gambling In Philadelphia
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has become skeptical as to why two casino developers in the state who have received licensing have not started their casino projects. HSP Gaming LP believes they have the answer the Board is looking for.
The company claims that they have been slowed by the process of securing permits in Philadelphia. That could be because many within Philadelphia do not want the SugarHouse Casino built at all.
The Gaming Board understood somewhat what HSP was claiming. Earlier in the month, they appointed a "master" to help negotiations between the developing company and the city. Apparently, there efforts have paid off.
Late this past week the company received the first of many permits that will be needed to begin construction of the SugarHouse Casino. Still to come, HSP needs permits for certificate of occupancy, HVAC systems, and lighting after they received the foundation permit.
Still, the first permit is a stepping stone in the right direction. The "master" appointed by the Control Board is still working towards agreements between the city and the casino's developers that will end in with all of the permits being secured.
SugarHouse is not the only casino in Philadelphia that is receiving opposition from the community. Foxwoods also has received a license to run a casino, but is facing similar challenges to that of SugarHouse.
