SugarHouse Casino Owner Wins Approval For Temporary Facility
SugarHouse Casino has been planning a temporary facility for a while now, but the recent economic conditions have caused them to restructure their plan. On Wednesday, they received approval of that plan from the Gaming Control Board.
Billionaire Neil Bluhm assured the Board that he and his team would come up with the additional $150 million financing that is necessary to complete the construction of the temporary casino.
"My family and I and my partners have $160 million of cash invested in this project, so it's all I think about," said Bluhm. While he was relieved that the Board approved his plan, the developer still has opponents to his casino from neighboring towns.
Bluhm plans to have the financing complete for the temporary casino by the summer. It is then expected to take around six months to complete the construction. Bluhm hopes to have the casino up and running in a year from now.
The public meeting that was held by the Gaming Board was attended by a majority of trade union members. They are looking to pick up hundreds of jobs to help build the casino, which could help the economy in the town out as well.
Pennsylvania has been busy at work in the past year with various expanded casino gambling issues. The jurisdictions involved in handing out permits to build the permanent casinos have been slow to act. That has caused the state government to step in and help in speeding up the process.
