SugarHouse Casino Places Request For Table Games In Pennsylvania
The rush to operate casino table games in Pennsylvania is on, with many casinos already asking the state for permission to operate the games. The latest request has come from a casino that is not even open yet.
The SugarHouse Casino is slated to open in Philadelphia in September. On Friday, a spokeswoman for the casino confirmed that SugarHouse has asked the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for permission to run forty-two table games when the casino is opened.
Pennsylvania lawmakers legalized the table game gambling earlier this year. The additional betting options at casinos in the state are expected to bring in millions of dollars for the state budget. Governor Ed Rendell had been pushing legislators to make the law change for months.
Casinos in Pennsylvania are eyeing a takeover of the gambling industry in the Northeast. Already this past December, Pennsylvania casinos had more slot revenue than those in Atlantic City. New jersey has long been considered the gambling capital of the East Coast.
The SugarHouse Casino is located between Fishtown and Northern Liberties. The Gaming Control Board will hold a public hearing on the petition from SugarHouse. The Board will want to ensure that the casino can handle the additional table games.
Each casino that wants to operate table games in the state must pay a $16.5 million licensing fee. Part of the public hearing will be the Gaming Board attempting to figure out if SugarHouse can afford the license.
