SugarHouse Looking For Temporary Casino In Philadelphia
Many people in the city of Philadelphia have mixed feelings about the new SugarHouse Casino that is going to be built. Opponents, and even the city, have not made life easy for the owners of the casino.
HSP Gaming, the development group building the casino, has now come up with a plan for a temporary casino until the permanent one is built. They have had meetings with representatives of Mayor Michael Nutter's administration regarding the temporary facility.
The plan that came out of those meetings has been submitted to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for approval. Under the plan, the temporary facility would be opened after April 1st, which would represent nine months from the groundbreaking on the permanent facility.
"It is in all of our interests, and the interests of the taxpayers, to get this facility open as quickly as possible," said Nutter on Monday.
Even with the backing of the mayor, the large project has had a difficult time receiving all of the permits necessary to build the casino. Residents are concerned with what it will mean to bring that type of expanded gambling to the area.
On the other side, there are the proponents of the casino that feel it is necessary to act quickly to get the casino open. Thousands of jobs will come along with the opening, and revenue will begin to be generated for the state and city.
