Sumner County Throws Support in Favor of Smaller Casino Projects
Sumner County has already turned down proposals by two casino giants, MGM Mirage and Harrah's Entertainment. That must have concerned other potential developers.
On Wednesday, the Sumner County Commission endorsed a pair of proposals that would bring a casino to the Wellington area. Marvel Gaming and Penn National Gaming were the two lucky winners.
This was only a first step for the two projects. They now have to go in front of a state committee in Topeka, and only one of the two proposals will be chosen.
The county can only have one casino. One of the two that were chosen today have a leg up on being that casino. Whoever is the winner must have the endorsement of the state. That is where the Commission came in and gave their endorsement.
The two projects that were chosen today were almost $100 million less of a proposed investment than the ones that were turned down from MGM and Harrah's. Penn National's proposal was a $365 million casino, and Marvel has proposed a $350 million project.
