SunCruz Gambling Ends In Florida, Ship Sails From Port Canaveral
More employees of the gambling industry in the US received bad news on Wednesday, only it did not come from their employer. The Canaveral Port Authority announced that the SunCruz gambling ship will no longer be operating out of the port.
The Port Commission held a meeting to decide what to do with the SunCruz ship that owed the port $300,000. One of the measures that was discussed was seizing the ship in order to ensure the port receives their back money.
Once that became a reality, the Port Authority knew the next step for SunCruz would be to sail the ship away on Wednesday evening, in order to avoid the ship being seized by creditors. The destination of the ship is unknown, but there is no doubt that it will not be operating out of Port Canaveral in the future.
The news is crushing for the hundreds of employees of the SunCruz gambling ship. The employees attended a holiday party on Monday, but they maintain that they were not told that SunCruz would be closing its doors. On Wednesday, crew members were unable to board the ship.
WEHS 2 in Orlando broke the story, and employees that spoke to WEHS claim they had no knowledge of the closing. The employees will now scramble to come up with money for the holiday season. If the ship does not sail, the employees do not get paid.
As recently as late last week, CGW has knowledge of SunCruz continuing in their attempt to pick up new customers. Promotions were being offered for free cruises, and it appeared to be business as usual.
