It took lawmakers several months to finally come to an agreement on how to legalize table games at Pennsylvania casinos. Now, it appears that many more months will go by before the games arrive at the casinos.
This past week, lawmakers finalized a law that was acceptable to both the Senate and the House. The law allows table games at Pennsylvania casinos, but the Gaming Control Board will now decide when those games will be played.
It appears as though a best case scenario would be for the casinos to be running the blackjack games in the summer. If everything does not run smoothly within the Board meetings, that could be backed up to September or later.
The first step is for the Gaming Board to come up with the rules and regulations that will govern the new games. The basics for those rules have been worked on for months, but the details need to be addresses. The Board has a meeting scheduled for late January.
Part of the rules that will be followed have to deal with the training of employees for the new games. The casinos will begin working on that immediately, and they also will be applying for certification to run the games by February at the latest.
Much like in other states where casino expansion has occurred, once all of the equipment has been ordered, and the dealers trained, the last step will be a couple of test runs. The casinos must exhibit to the Gaming Board that they are operating the games correctly.
After all of the preliminary work is complete, the casinos will begin to generate the millions of dollars that the state needs to help the budget shortcomings. Thousands of jobs are also expected to be created when the table games are added.
