Things happen quickly in the world of gambling no matter where it takes place. In Taiwan, a gambling ban was lifted by the government back in January, and on Saturday the government began formulating a plan for the future of casinos in the country.

The good news for the Taiwanese after these meetings took place on Saturday is that casino gambling is coming. The bad news is that the China Times is reporting that only two casinos will be licensed.

That does not mean that there will only be two casinos, but part of what was discussed Saturday was, after the two licenses are given out, a third may not be offered for at least a decade. So for the first ten years, it will be a two casino show.

Other perimeters that were drafted at the meetings had to do with the amount of rooms the casinos would have. The government agencies in attendance agreed that more than 1,000 rooms would be available at the casinos.

People in Taiwan have been excited about the prospects of bringing casino gambling to the country. Estimates indicate that as many as 50,000 new jobs would be created when the casinos are built.

The financial side of things looks good for Taiwan as well. NT$100 billion would be generated annually, and 500,000 tourists are expected. The negotiations for the new casinos have just begun, but judging from the results Saturday, progress is being made.
