Taiwan Preparing To Enter The Casino Gambling Market

Taiwan looks like they will become the latest in the growing number of countries that is legalizing casino gambling. The Parliament is expected to approve three resort casinos by the end of the year.

The economy in Taiwan, like other countries, has taken a turn for the worst. they are trying to find ways to kick start their economy, and casino gambling seems like just the medicine that is needed.

While the casinos will most likely be approved, it could still prove difficult to find developers who will want to take on the project. Many casino developers have backed off expansion plans in light of the current global credit crisis.

"It is great that Taiwan wants to get involved in the casino gambling market, but they might be choosing the wrong time to do it. Who knows if any developers will have the funds to take on such a project," said one observer.

If Taiwan does get their three casinos, they would be in direct competition with other Asian casinos. Macau has become the casino capital of the world, and South Korea and Singapore will both be players in the casino industry.

Still, Taiwan thinks they can make it work on a smaller scale than the others who have casinos.. "We don't want to exceed three licenses. We're not going to be Macau," said Mayor of Makung, Su Kun-hsiung. He
