Tattersall And Intralot Lottery Gambling Companies Under Fire
A monopoly was in place in Australia, and Premier Jonh Brumbry felt that the door should be open to competition for the lottery dollar.
The cabinet ended the monopoly of Tattersall last month and created anew ten year pact with Tattersall and Intralot, a Greek based company.
Intralot will be allowed to offer scratch off tickets for $20, and having a top prize of $1.5 million. They will be able to distribute these tickets through vending machines, a fact that concerns opponents of gambling.
They will also be able to handle the Pick 3 game and TV Bingo weekly.
Tattersall will sell lottery tickets through their network of retail outlets and agencies, plus its website.
The concern of the opposition is the ability for these companies to sell tickets on mobile phones and on websites, leading to children buying these lottery tickets.
A fine of $1000 can be imposed on anyone who sells a lottery ticket to a minor.
