The Informant Premieres On HBO; Scorsese Gambling Series Next
HBO viewers have been teased over the past month with highlights of the upcoming gambling series Boardwalk Empire. That series will not start until September, but on Saturday night, another highly anticipated movie made its HBO debut.
The Informant, a movie starring Matt Damon, premiered at 9PM on HBO. The movie had received strong reviews when it came out in 2009, and those who have waited for it to clear theatres and come to cable finally were rewarded.
The Informant is a movie that details the life of Mark Whitacre. The true story re-enactment takes place in the nineties when Whitacre cooperated with the FBI to help bring down an international price fixing scheme. Damon was praised for his part in the movie.
The Informant may have been the main attraction on Saturday, but viewers are eagerly awaiting Boardwalk Empire. Martin Scorsese directed the pilot episode and his involvement alone has fans curious about the new series. Boardwalk Empire is set in Atlantic City.
The series centers around Nucky Thompson, who was the ruler of AC back during the prohibition era in the US. Steve Buscemi plays the role of Thompson. Arnold Rothstein, Lucky Luciano, and Al Capone are also featured in the series of back when gangsters controlled the boardwalk.
Scorsese is not the only big name associated with the project. Terence Winter works alongside Scorsese as the writer, creator, and executive producer. Winter is best known for his hit series The Sopranos. Mark Wahlberg is also an executive producer on the show that promises to be a hit.
