Governor Robert Riley and the Task Force on Illegal Gambling have been successful in recent months in driving thousands of Alabama residents out of work. Two of the state's biggest employers have remained closed, fearing that the Task Force would strike again.

Country Crossings and the White Hall Entertainment Center have both closed their doors over a month ago. Officials from these facilities claim that they will stay closed until lawmakers decide the future of electronic bingo in the state.

Legislators are currently working on bills that would place the gambling issue in the hands of voters. With unclear laws regarding electronic bingo, lawmakers are seeking a way for the issue to come to an end. That end may only come when the voters have their say.

In the meantime, one of the biggest gambling establishments has re-opened its doors this past weekend. VictoryLand received a court order to keep the Task Force from raiding the facility, and has now opened its doors to customers once again.

The owner of VictoryLand has been one of the biggest proponents of gambling in Alabama. Milton McGregor has fought Governor Riley on his plans for the Task Force, and McGregor is leading the charge to keep people employed in the state.

VictoryLand has reinstated many of the workers who were without jobs while the gambling establishment was closed. The other facilities are hopeful that they can also open their doors again in the near future.

Attorney General Troy King has given warning to the Task Force that they must start conducting their raids by following procedural laws. If not, there is a chance that King could step in and take over control of the Task Force.
