Top Officials Back Allentown Casino

Voted Top Online Casino Several Years in a Row!

Six of the nine Lehigh County commissioners on Tuesday publicly avowed their support for a proposed casino in Allentown and distributed copies of letters they sent to the state's Gaming Control Board, urging it to tap Aztar Corp. for a slots license.

At a news conference in the county government building in Allentown, Commissioner Chairman Percy H. Dougherty, citing a media report and an editorial, said they wanted to dispel any misconceptions about where the majority of the commissioners stood on Aztar's application to build a $325 million casino resort in east Allentown. Dougherty, Vice Chairman Daniel K. McCarthy, Kurt J. Derr, Marc J. Grammes, James L. Kelly and Sterling H. Raber wrote the letters to the state gaming board, touting the benefits a slots license would bring to the financially beleaguered city.

Grammes and Raber were not at the news conference. A casino would bring cash and jobs, the commissioners said, and the location has advantages over competing proposals for local casinos.
