Tribal Battle Begins Over Casino Revenue Sharing In California

Play at Golden Casino

A tribal battle has begun in the state of California. Fifty members of the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians have stopped receiving casino revenue share payments.

The San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians are claiming that the fifty members are not real Indians. They claim that the fifty members do not meet blood requirements for the tribe.

The controversy has put the tribe in danger of violating Indian gaming revenue sharing rules, according to Southern California's Bureau of Indian Affairs Chief James Fletcher. The tribe could face sanctions and fines for withholding the money.

The members in question are decedents of a man who was not a full blooded Indian. The members feel they are being discriminated against simply because the tribe does not want to share profits with them.

Not only are the members not receiving their share of the profits, but the tribe is taking their action a step further. They have fired several of them from their jobs. They also claim they will evict them from their homes on the tribe.

The tribe has 300 members. Each member is supposed to receive around $4,000 a month in revenue sharing from the casino.
