The legal challenge to a proposed Gun Lake tribe casino in Western Michigan all but ended on Wednesday. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the challenge, paving the way for construction to begin on the casino.

Allegan County will be the location of the new casino. The tribe believes that construction will begin within a few months, although they do not anticipate the project to be completed for over a year.

Michigan Gambling Opposition is the group that has been trying to stop the casino from being built. They were prepared to take the case all the way to the Supreme Court, but those hopes were dashed on Wednesday.

It will now be on to the Legislature for the anti-gambling group. They are hoping they can convince legislators to not approve a gambling compact between the state of Michigan and the Gun Lake tribe.

The victory today was a big one for residents in Western Michigan. It is expected that the casino, once built and operational, could produce almost 2,000 new jobs in the area. That is a relief at a time when many people are losing their jobs around the country.

The casino will feature 2,500 slot machines. The 190,000 square foot establishment will also be home to seventy five table games, and various dining options.
