The Flandreau Santee Sioux tribe and a group of business leaders are proposing a new casinos for South Dakota. The casino would be a response to a new casino project that is taking place near the Iowa border.

The Iowa casino plan was to pull thousands of customers from South Dakota. The casino would have cut heavily into the revenue generated in the South Dakota economy, leaving residents in the state to ponder whether an additional casino is needed to keep the funds in the state.

"I think if Lyon County didn't exist, it would be a harder thing for the public to accept," said David Sweet, CEO of Hotel & Restaurant Management, as resorted by The Associated Press. "But right now, it does exist, and it is going forward."

The proposal may be good for the economy, but that does not mean it will not have its detractors. One of those opponents could be Governor Mike Rounds. several anti-gambling groups are also planning on voicing their opinion about the possible expansion.

South Dakota currently has a strong video lottery terminal gambling industry. Those within the video lottery industry may op[pose bringing in additional gambling options, fearing that it could drop revenue. Still, the tribe believes their plan will eventually win approval.

The development group is proposing a casinos with 900 slot machines, and a couple of dozen table games. According to the AP report, the project will cost $110 million, and will also include two restaurants, a 1,200 seat event center, and an eighteen hole golf course.
