Trick Or Treating 2010 Begins Tonight For Kids; Parents At Casinos
The people who are rejoicing the most this Halloween weekend may not be the children who are out trick or treating, it may be their parents. In states that have recently added casinos, the 2010 festivities will start with trick or treating and end with some casino gambling.
Thousands of parents will begin taking their children trick or treating this evening despite the fact that Halloween is not until Sunday. After the annual festivities, some of these adults will get to experience casino gambling for the first time.
"I have been waiting for several weeks to go to the new casino," said Gloria Beckel, a Maryland resident. "But I decided to wait until Halloween weekend because my friends and I thought it would be more fun when everyone was dressed up. Hopefully it will be all I expected."
Beckel and her friends will be going to the Hollywood Casino Perryville, which opened just over a month ago. In late September, Maryland residents received their first casino when Hollywood opened, and thousands of residents have enjoyed the casino during October. As the month ends, the casino is hoping to capitalize on the Halloween weekend.
In other states, casino have made Halloween weekend a time to break out some of their top promotions of the year. Hourly cash drawings are being held, and costume contests with big cash prizes are being held all across the country. In some cases, poker tournaments with a Halloween theme are taking place.
The Halloween weekend officially marks the start of holiday season in the US. Casinos can look forward to increased attendance during the Thanksgiving weekend in November, followed by another boost near the end of the year with the Christmas and New Year's holidays.
