Tropical Storm Bonnie Leaves Gamblers In Bahamas Behind

This time of year, many gamblers travel from Florida and other southern states to the Bahamas. The sun and the casino gambling is the perfect vacation for those looking to escape the every day grind of daily life.

This week, however, gamblers were treated to the unfortunate time of life in the Bahamas. A tropical depression made its way through the area, leaving behind many depressed vacationers on its way towards the Gulf of Mexico.

"I come to the Bahamas once a year, and it is usually in the beginning of the summer," said Mario Benyamine. "This year, because of work, I had to come a little later, and it turns out I arrived just days before the storm. At least I'll have another four days to enjoy my vacation down here."

Tropical Storm Bonnie is now headed towards the Gulf of Mexico, and oil spill relief efforts may once again have to be slowed due to the weather patterns. South Florida is expected to feel the effects of Tropical Storm Bonnie on Friday.

Florida is one of the states that recently expanded their gambling options. Florida lawmakers agreed to a compact with the Seminole Indians, allowing blackjack and baccarat at several of the Seminole casinos in the state. Pari-mutuels also received extended gaming hours with the new laws.

The major part of the new law for gamblers is the no-limit buy-ins for poker games. The poker rooms have been packed with gamblers in the three weeks since the new law took effect. Tropical Storm Bonnie may slow the gambling habits on Friday and Saturday, but by Sunday, action may return to its increased levels of early July.
