Trump, Casino Giants Targeted In Penn Push
A reformed gambling addict is waging a war against The Donald and other casino giants to force them into sending personal profit-and-loss statements to customers in hopes of shocking them out of wagering away their paychecks.
"When people see in black and white how much they really win and how much bigger their losses are, they'll be shocked," said Bill Kearney, who's been pressuring Pennsylvania legislators to adopt laws requiring monthly statements from the state's new casinos. Kearney, a mortgage broker in Philadelphia, estimated that 25 percent of regular casino customers would stop gambling if they were aware of the lopsided results that monthly statements would reveal.
Kearney and his allies in the state Senate plan to insert a monthly disclosure law in an amendment in the next few weeks. Earlier, the plan stalled in the lower legislative house with a tie vote. While none of the casino licenses have been announced, Donald Trump is planning to open a sprawling casino in blighted Northwest Philadelphia or on a riverboat moored along the Schuylkill River.
