Twin River Going To Twenty-Four Hour Gambling In Rhode Island
Some critics believe lawmakers around the country have simply thrown the book on their morality out the window in the past couple of years. Their latest example is in Rhode Island, where Twin River will soon operate an around the clock gambling facility.
The director of the State Lottery, Gerald Aubin, has authorized the slot parlor to open their doors to customers twenty-four hours a day. Twin River has not yet said when they will make the move to expanded hours, but it is expected to come soon.
"US states are realizing that gambling is the one thing that can get them through these tough economic times," said Gaming Analyst Brad Dawkins, "That is why we are seeing a shift in policy from limited gambling, to full-scale gambling in many of these states."
Voters in the state of Ohio have turned away casino gambling on several occasions up until Tuesday. For the first time in history, voters backed a plan that would bring casino gambling to Ohio.
In Pennsylvania, lawmakers are closing in on allowing table games at their casinos. It is part of massive casino gambling expansion that has taken place over the past couple of years in the Northeast. Several other states have also expanded their casinos' hours of operation and betting limits.
Twin River has been in bankruptcy protection since June, and part of the restructuring plan was to allow twenty-four hour gambling. Governor Don Carcieri has signed off on the idea. Twin River video gambling is one of the top revenue producers for Rhode island.
