Two New Las Vegas Hotel Towers Cater To High Roller Gamblers

MGM Mirage may have changed the future of Las Vegas when they opened their CityCenter property in stages the past couple of months. Now that gamblers have a piece of their own heaven, it is up to other casinos to keep up with the times.

The first two to do so are Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock. The two casino resorts will be opening new towers that are aimed at pleasing the high end clientele that visits Sin City. The two companies are hoping to bring more high rolling customers to their resorts.

In the case of the Hard Rock, the expansion is not as grand as at Planet Hollywood. The new Hard Rock tower will have 374 rooms. That pales in comparison to the 1,201 rooms that the new PH Towers will have at Planet Hollywood.

"The CityCenter project has raised the bar for Las Vegas," said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz, "Now that the line has been drawn, it will be interesting to see how many of these casino resorts are financially stable enough to cross over it."

The PH Towers were built as part of a timeshare project put together by Planet Hollywood and Westgate, a Florida company that specializes in time shares. Of all of the rooms, however, only around 200 are being used for timeshares.

If anyone is looking to spend New year's Eve in Las Vegas, Planet Hollywood expects about 500 rooms to be available for use by that time. The rooms are opening in stages. Room costs are currently $229 a night for the middle of the week, and $349 a night for weekends.

The HRH tower at Hard Rock is also opening in stages. While it is much smaller than the Planet Hollywood expansion, it is part of a $750 million overall expansion at the casino resort. By April, the company is hoping to have all of the expansion completed.
