Underage Gambling Fines Continue For Pennsylvania Casinos
The message of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is simple to casinos in the state. Either stop allowing underage gambling in the casinos, or pay the hefty fines that come with turning the other way.
This week, the Control Board fined Hollywood Casino $24,000 for three incidents involving underage gambling this summer. The casino is located at Penn National Racecourse. The casino has accepted the fines and moved on.
The three incidents all took place this past summer. An eighteen year old woman gambled for several hours, a nineteen year old played slots for a brief period of time, and a twenty year old played slots for about an hour and a half.
This has not been the first fines levied by the Gaming Board. They have actually been busy monitoring underage gambling, and has now fined a total of six casinos over $200,000. They intend on making in known that the underage gambling will not be tolerated in Pennsylvania.
The Board has handed down the fines at a time when state lawmakers are considering expanded gambling. Table games may soon come to Pennsylvania casinos, and that will attract even more interest from underage gamblers.
Pennsylvania is one of several states in the Northeast that is expanding their gambling options. Connecticut and New York have also expanded, and all three states are cutting into an industry that was once dominated by Atlantic City, New Jersey.
