Underground Casino In Atlanta Could Be Key To Education In Georgia
There has been a lot of talk lately about how to allow Underground Atlanta to have casino gambling. The latest proposal would put video lottery terminals at the location and help fund the education system in the state of Georgia.
Funds have been tight for HOPE and the Georgia pre-kindergarten programs. The state has been looking for ways to help both programs survive in the current economic climate, and casino gambling may end up being the only answer.
The state lottery has been funding both of these programs, but lottery sales are down, and it has caused major concerns. The programs costs are increasing, but money to fund the programs is decreasing.
"If the state does not seriously consider allowing the video lottery terminal gambling at Underground Atlanta, there could be major ramifications for the education system," said observer Wendy Trublie, "In fact, I believe the programs will not survive without the gambling revenue."
The opposition still maintains that the problems that come with the expanded gambling outweigh the need for the revenue. Other states have shown, however, that the problems that come with expanded gambling can be controlled with the proper treatment programs.
