Union And Mountaineer Casino Reach Agreement, End Strike
Labor unions have done a strong job convincing casino workers to join over the past year. Employees of a casino in West Virginia are now glad that they decided to team with a union.
The strike that started a few weeks ago at the Mountaineer Casino Racetrack apparently has come to an end. Negotiators have been working diligently to solve the issues at hand.
On Monday, it was announced by Mountaineer President Ted Arneault via a conference call that the sides have reached an agreement on a new contract.
The contract is said to be for three years. Both sides initially are happy with the agreement. Verbal agreements have been reached, but before it can be formally accepted, members of Local 23 will have to vote on the contract.
That vote will take place on Wednesday. The vote should be in favor of the new contract. Lawyers have already worked out the language for the deal. MTR Gaming Group Incorporated, which is the parent company to Mountaineer, is happy with the contract, according to Arneault.
