Casino gambling has become a big business in the United States and around the world. Casinos are popping up in nearly every state, and expanding in areas they already existed.

The United Auto Workers have been successfully trying to unionize casino workers in many of these states. They are slowly getting more and more workers to sign up for representation.

On Saturday, members of the union made themselves heard by staging a rally in Atlantic City. Thousands of members are expected at the rally. They had permits to rally on the Boardwalk, and some high ranking politicians also showed up at the rally.

Governor Jon S. Corzine was there, as was U.S. Senator Robert Menendez. The union is claiming they just want fair treatment for their members in the area of working conditions and benefits.

The new members are enthusiastic that by joining the union, they will finally be recognized for the work they do. "We want to be the team members they want us to be. We don't want to hurt them, we just want them to stop hurting us," said Terry Schindel, a longtime dealer at Caesars.

The Auto Workers have already successfully lobbied workers at four Atlantic City casinos to join the union. Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, Bally's Atlantic City, Caesars Atlantic City, and Tropicana Casino and Resort all have some of their employees under the union's guidance.
