Vancouver Continues Casino Expansion In Canada

The BC government made the announcement on Friday that many people in Canada have been waiting for. A new casinos is coming to Vancouver and will be connected to BC Place. It had long been rumored that the casino expansion was imminent.

Paragon Development currently operates the Edgewater Casino, but the plans are for Edgewater to be moved. The new casino will also be run by Paragon, and the company has reached a deal for a seventy year lease on the property where the new casino will be built.

Emotions were running high on Friday when Premiere Gordon Campbell proclaimed, "I am pleased to confirm what many people have been discussing." His remarks came at a news conference in BC Place. All parties involved were happy with Friday's announcement.

"We are going to build a destination anchored by two hotels," said Scott Menke, President of Pentagon. To create a tourist destination will be beneficial to the people of Vancouver.

The process will take several years, but will also bring thousands of jobs to the area. Temporary construction jobs will be available, and permanent employment opportunities within the hotel and casino will come open once the facility is built.

The project is expected to be completed by 2013, but there are still some issues that need to be resolved. The first step in the process will be the city of Vancouver approving a rezoning application.
