Virginia Lottery Gambling Called Out In Scratch Off Lawsuit

Buy Lottery Tickets Now!

A new gambling case is about to be opened in Virginia. A Washington and Lee University professor is suing the Virginia Lottery for continuing to sell scratch off tickets after the top prize for the game has been awarded.

The lottery is supposed to pull a game after the top prize has been paid out. In Virginia, however, the professor indicates that lottery tickets were still be sold to customers after the top prize was awarded.

The lawsuit states that after getting word of the lawsuit, the Virginia Lottery began checking to make sure the top prize was still available for all the tickets they had for sale. The suit was filed Friday in Richmond Circuit Court.

Professor Scott Hoover claims that the lottery was deceiving customers by selling them tickets that had no opportunity for people to win the top prize that was promised on the tickets. He estimates that 26.5 million tickets were sold in this manner over the past five years.

He is suing for reimbursements for all who have bought the defective tickets. He claims that he is trying to get the Virginia Lottery to be held accountable for their deception to the public.

Hoover's attorney, John Fishwick, gave notice to the state lottery about the lawsuit earlier in the month. It was then that officials began checking into all of their scratch offs to see if the top prizes had been won.
