The University of Windsor in Canada has been considered one of the leaders in the area of problem gambling research. Psychology professor Alan Scoboria is about to take that research to the next level.

Scoboria is beginning a study into the differences between people with gambling problems and people who simply gamble for entertainment purposes. The study will focus on people who do not currently have what is defined as a gambling problem.

"We have a long established program that studies problem gambling here at the university and this will help us examine how people think about gambling, and the differences between problem gamblers and non-problem gamblers," said Scoboria in an interview.

People chosen to participate in the study will be required to complete an interview lasting two hours long. They will also complete questionnaires about their gambling habits.

Scoboria hopes to use about eighty people for the study. They will be both men and women and will be over thirty five years of age. He is seeking people who gamble at least once a month.

The gambling could be anything from slot machines to the lottery. The results of the study are expected to be released in the early to middle part of 2009.
