Wisconsin Indian Tribe Gambling Revenue Down in 2008
This year has not been kind to Indian tribe casinos throughout the US, but it is figures from last year that are currently concerning tribal casinos in Wisconsin. According to a new study, Wisconsin tribal casino gambling dropped by two percent in 2008.
The figures that were released by Nathan Associates Inc. may have been from last year, but that may be a good thing for Wisconsin casinos. This year has been even tougher on casinos nationally then 2008.
For Wisconsin tribal casinos, revenue slipped from $1.26 billion in 2007, to $1.24 billion in 2008. It was not a large decrease, but it was one that was on par with other states, all of which had been hurt by the economy at the end of 2008.
"Tribal casinos were not immune to the economic recession that began last year," said Gaming Analyst Brad Dawkins, "If people do not have jobs or money, it does not matter whether the casinos are owned by Indian tribes or by private developers."
In the US, the two largest casino gambling markets have been pummeled by the economy. Atlantic City has been experiencing double digit revenue losses at their casinos for months, and Las Vegas has also had a major drop off in business.
Las Vegas may soon be aided by the opening of the CityCenter mega-project from MGM Mirage and Dubai World. The two companies have already opened some portions of their project, but the big casino is not yet open. The project is expected to help the entire Las Vegas Strip raise revenues.
