Wizard Of Oz Slot Pays Gambling Woman $1.6 Million in California
"We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz." That was the phrase that was muttered most often in the fantasy movie that Judy Garland helped make a classic. On Thursday, a California woman found out that there is much more to the Wizard of Oz slot machine than just fantasy.
Susan Nott had become accustomed to stopping by the Thunder Valley Casino before work. She would leave early in the morning, play the slots for a while, and then head off to her job. Her routine may change soon after she hit a $1.65 million jackpot Thursday at the casino on the Wizard of Oz slot.
The money will be life changing for Nott. She has already said that she will spend some of the money paying off her car loan. Other portions of the jackpot will be used for trust funds for her children, and a new car for her best friend.
"It is such a great experience to see the faces on these jackpot winners when they realize they have won over a million dollars," said Barry Greer, a former manager of a popular casino, "just to understand how much the money will change these peoples lives is a feeling that all casino workers have experienced at one time or another."
This was another example of how a player does not have to wager big money to hit a jackpot. The machine that Nott was playing was only a $.5 machine. Compared to other slots in a casino, the $.5 slot is among the smallest denominations a gambler can pay.
