Woman's Gamble on Casino Career Pays Off Big
She has a degree in English from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and had never set foot on a casino floor before going to work at the Casino Queen.But five years ago, when she tired of retail sales, Kennedy took the advice of a cousin who's a fan of gambling.At first, she didn't even consider dealing. But when her application to work as a clerk at the Queen went nowhere, the opportunity came up. Today, Kennedy, 31, can't imagine herself in any other job."I'd recommend it to anyone," said Kennedy, an East St. Louis native who lives in Cahokia. "Whenever someone tells me they're looking for a job, I always say, You should apply to be a dealer. She once passed out on the casino floor after succumbing to nervousness about crunching numbers and interpreting rules.
