Women Gambling As Much As Men According To Addiction Study

The scene from the movies has six or seven men sitting around a poker table gambling. No matter which gambling movie the scene comes from, it is basically the same picture with different actors.

Hollywood might have to soon change that image. A study released by the Addiction Foundation of Manitoba reveals that women are becoming just as prevalent as men when it comes to gambling.

The days of men sending their women off to shop while they play cards are over. The fact of today's gambling society is that women have become more involved, and they are spending their entertainment money on gambling just as freely as men are.

"You can't see a gender anymore. We're finding that consistent even with alcohol and drugs, as well. More females are engaging in risky behavior that we've seen in the past," said John Borody, CEO of the addictions Foundation.

The biggest are of gambling where women have been showing up is at the card tables. Women poker players have followed the lead of professionals such as Annie Duke. They have really taken to the game and in some instances that is tough for men.

"Women are much harder to read then men. We can't read them in real life, so why should we think we would be able to read them at a card table," said Michael Shipley, an expert in Behavioral Psychology.
