Worishofer shoes were the type of footwear that the likes of Maggie Gyllenhaal and other celebrities would make fun of when they were children. The "granny" shoes, were anything but cool, and even the thought of putting a foot in them made some young girls squirm with fear.
Now, however, Worishofer shoes are making a comeback in a big way, and the trend is affecting the gambling community as much as any. celebrities have started to wear the comfortable shoes, as have poker players who spend long periods of time at the tables.
"I always play in my local poker tournaments, and sometimes I have to spend upwards of ten hours at the table in one sitting," said Jenny "The Trick" Weltman. "The past couple of months, I have started wearing the Worishofer's to my tournaments, and not only are they comfortable, but they have brought me good luck."
If superstition gets involved, there is a strong chance that the Worishofer shoe will become a poker room phenomenon. About the only people in the world more superstitious than athletes are poker players. In recent years, everything from lucky hats and card markers, to lucky wristbands, eyeglasses, and even colored contact lenses have been seen at poker events.
Slot players are equally as superstitious. Different machines offer different odds and regardless of the fact that it has been proven that a random number generator determines who wins and loses, there are still millions of quirky routines that slot players will go through before spinning the reels.
While the Worishofer shoes have become a fashion statement in Hollywood and on the local casino scene, they still have not caught on with big name poker pros. Chances are, if Jennifer Harman or Vanessa Rousso strut their stuff in the Worishofer's anytime soon, they will become a regular in casinos everywhere.
